Fall 2004 Adult Education Program. This series will focus on the study and discussion of “What Do We Believe as Catholics?”

October 26 -Prayer-Different Types; November 2 -Morality-How is Conscience Formed? Social Justice, the Poor, War & Peace; November 9- Issues of Sexuality Morality-Sexuality, Stem Cell, Cloning, Living Together; November 16 -Explaining Catholic Faith to Others in light of Different Religions in Canarsie Importance of the Mass.

Thank you, Fr. Joseph Diele for preaching God’s word to us and teaching about what it means to live out our baptismal commitment and being a disciple of Christ. Thank you to all who participated in this beautiful prayer each night.

Our Latin Caribbean Dance was a huge success. Many parishioners and their friends had a great time. The “D.J.” was great as well as the food. Thanks to committees who decorated, organized and worked so hard to bring more people out. Thanks to all who provided food. The crowd was large and all had a good time!!!

We are truly becoming “Holy Family, United As One Family.”

Thanks to the generosity of so many parishioners who gave last weekend to the hurricane victims through the Diocese of Brooklyn. Bishop Di Marzio will forward all the funds collected by the parishes to Catholic Relief Services and Catholic Charities USA to aid in this effort.

Marian Pilgrimage to the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, D.C. on Saturday October 23, 2004. Pilgrims will be leaving from Our Lady of Miracles Parish. Our food pantry, sponsored by the Canarsie Cluster, (Our Lady of Miracles, St. Jude & Holy Family) is available for those in need. It is open on Fridays & Saturdays from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM both days.

If you or your family is in need of food, please stop by the rear basement doors of Our Lady Miracles Rectory on the days listed. Also, anyone who cares to donate any food, the pantry is always is in need of dry milk, cold cereal, peanut butter & jelly, mayonnaise, cooking oil, tuna fish, corned beef hash, paper goods and whatever else. Our pantry is always in need of food.

Heaven Church

We are proud to present the Math and ELA scores for grades 4 & 8 for the past school year. These scores are right with or above the Diocese and State.

These percentages represent the number of students in Level 3 & 4, which meet and surpass the state standard. Grade 4 Math 77%, ELA 57%. Grade 8 Math 53%, ELA 83%. Thanks to our teachers who expend a great deal of effort to achieve these results.

All the computers in our lab have been upgraded by the students. Grades 1 & 4 will be using a new program that connects to a projector and allows the children to use a remote control to answer questions and be assessed by the teachers.

Ask your child about it in the coming weeks.

Grade 8 will be taking the new High School entrance exam on Saturday, November 13th. Please pray for their success.

The Off-Broadway Production of Late Nite Catechism is coming to Mary Queen of Heaven Saturday, October 23rd in the Parish Hall. Doors will open at 7:00 pm. Tickets are available in the Rectory Office.

On Saturday, October 30th at 11 am we will have a special Mass to remember all those who have died this past year.

We invite the families of all those who were buried from our Parish this year, and all those who have lost loved ones to attend this services. If your loved one was not buried from this Parish but you would like to have their name announced during the service, please call the Rectory and we will be happy to include them on the list.

Our Adult Education Series continues on Tuesday nights. The theme for this session is Important Men and Women in the Bible. The remaining sessions are: October 26 - Ruth: Model of Filial Piety.

The presenters are Father Steven Aguggia (the men) and Sister Helen Marie Cahill, FMSC (the women).

Come and join us for these evenings of history and spirituality. Sessions begin at 7:30 pm in the Parish Hall.

Consider joining a Parish Scripture Faith Sharing Group and let God’s grace strengthen you. The session began this week and will continue for six weeks.

There are daytime and evening sessions available. If you would like to be a part of one of these groups please call the Rectory and leave your name and phone number. On Sunday, October 24th, Bishop Daily will administer the Sacrament of Confirmation to the children in our Confirmation class.

St. Jude

Our Fall series will focus on “What Do We Believe As Catholics?” It is every Tuesday at 7:30 P.M. in the Community room. The topic this week will be Jesus: Mission and Evangelization of his time and today. This is a part of our cluster adult faith formation program and is intended for adults who went to Catholic School or Religion classes as a youngster and would like to update their knowledge of the Catholic faith.

Our parish prayer breakfast will be on Saturday, October 30th. It will begin with 8:45 A.M. Mass, and continue with a full breakfast and a speaker in Coyne Hall.

Registration for Religious Education classes will continue to take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:30 A.M. to 1:30 P.M. at the school. Please call (718)241-6633 or 241-4030.

The 12:30 PM Mass is our Bi-lingual Mass. The first reading, the psalm and some of the hymns will be in the language of the day. October 24th and 31st are in English.

In preparation for our parish feast day on October 28th, our solemn novena continues on Thursday nights at 7:30 P.M. in the church. To celebrate our patron Saint’s Feastday, there will be Mass on Thursday, October 28th at 8:45 A.M. and Bishop Catanello will be celebrating a Multi-Lingual Mass at 7:30 P.M.

Please pray for our young people who will be receiving the sacrament of Confirmation on Friday November 5th. Bishop DiMarzio will be coming that day.

Christmas Tenor Concert: On Sunday, November 28th at 3:00 P.M. Mr. Daniel Rodriguez will sing a Benefit Concert to help St. Michael’s at Sunset Park, Brooklyn. For more information or reservations call the Rectory office (718)768-6065. Parking available.

The annual Marian Pilgrimage of the Brooklyn Diocese is scheduled for October 23rd, 2004. We will share a bus with Holy Family Church. The bus will leave at 6:00 A.M. from Holy Family parking lot and return at 11:00 P.M.

For those of you who didn’t have a chance to go with us, you can still go by calling Our Lady of Miracles at 1 (718) 257-2400 as soon as possible. They have a few seats. For your convenience, they also have a big parking lot.

We continually need food to help the needy in our area. Please leave non perishable food (cans) in the box in the Narthex.

On Saturday from 9:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M. free flu shots will be provided by the Visiting Nurse Service of New York, for the first 250 participants. Free Mammograms will be provided by the American-Italian Cancer Foundation and the Women’s Outreach Network from 9:00 to 5:00 P.M. Women must call for an appointment at 1-800-564-6868.
