AHA’s Wall Street Run & Heart Walk To Return Next Thursday, Sept. 23
Step Out, Save. Lives! Exercise Your Heart, urges the American Heart Association’s 2004 theme for the Wall Street Run & Heart Walk, presented by Merrill Lynch, which returns on Thursday, September 23, 2004. More than 6,000 people from throughout the five boroughs of New York City are expected to exercise their hearts at the Wall Street Run & Heart Walk this year.
Step Out, Save Lives! Exercise Your Heart promotes the importance of physical activity and how it can help reduce or eliminate risk factors for heart disease and stroke. In 2001, total cardiovascular diseases claimed the lives of approximately 930,000 Americans, 54 percent of which were women.
Major cardiovascular diseases continue to be New York City’s leading cause of death, claiming the lives of more than 27,600 people each year, including more than 14,000 women. Heart disease and stroke are New York’s No. 1 and No. 3 causes of death, respectively. Join survivors, families, friends, and company teams and 5,000 runners and walkers on Thursday, September 23 at the World Financial Center in downtown Manhattan to help fight heart disease and stroke. The American Heart Association aims to raise $800,000 from this year’s event.
People from every borough and from all walks of life benefit daily, weekly and monthly from the Wall Street Run & Heart Walk, the flagship walking and fund-raising event that helped the American Heart Association invest more than $348 million in research, public and professional education and community programs last year.
Lack of physical activity is a risk factor contributing significantly to heart disease, stroke and other cardiovascular diseases. To reduce your risk, the American Heart Association recommends at least 30 minutes of exercise on most days of the week. Support the 2004 Wall Street Run & Heart Walk theme, Step Out, Save Lives!
