Safe Boating Classes Scheduled

New York State has passed a law, mandating proof of education for all ages to operate a “Jet Ski”. This Fall, the Brooklyn Power Squadron will begin Safe Boating Classes Brooklyn. These classes are open to men, women and teenagers.

Classes will be held at two locations: The Ryan Center at Floyd Bennett Field starting at 7 PM on Monday, September 13. The second location is St. Frances College, 180 Remsen Street, on Tuesday, September 14 at 7:00 PM.

These classes will be two hours of instruction for four weeks. A final test with presentation of certificates of completion will be presented at the final class. Ownership of a Boat/Jet Ski is not required for the course and graduates may be eligible for a discount on their boat insurance. Classroom lectures and self-study lessons cover the techniques of safe handling of sail and power craft. The course instruction is free. There is a charge for materials.
