"Feed The Children" Campaign Began

Mother’s Day; Ends On Father’s Day

City Harvest is gearing up for its annual Feed the Kids’ 2004 drive, which runs from Mother’s Day through Father’s Day (May 9-June. 20). The campaign has a single goal: to make sure that not one New York child goes hungry.

One out of every four New York City children doesn’t always get enough to eat and relies on food pantries or soup kitchens for their next meal. City Harvest’s goal this year is to deliver 175,000 pounds of nutritious, kid-friendly food to community food programs to help feed hungry NYC kids throughout the summer months.

Starting on Mother’s Day (May 9), New Yorkers can help to end childhood hunger by donating non-perishable, nutritious foods at their local police station or firehouse. This year’s sponsors include D’Agostino Supermarkets, 106.7 Lite FM, Beech-Nut, The New York Times, ABC 7 and Viacom Outdoor.

From May 10-14 the New York City Department of Education will sponsor Kids for Kids Week, when all New York City children will be encouraged to bring non-perishable, nutritious food to participating public schools throughout the five boroughs.

In 2003, ‘Feed the Kids’ collected over 190,000 pounds of ‘kid-friendly food’ that was delivered to community food programs that serve children.
