Gardening

Free Training For Urban Gardeners

Officials of the Local Development Corporation of East New York have announced that East New York Farms will conduct a training session for gardeners who would like to sell their produce at the East New York Farmers Market. If you have a backyard garden, or you’re a community gardener in eastern Brooklyn, you may want to attend the session, which cover soil testing, growing for market, and producing good crops. A session will be held on April 17 beginning at 10 a.m. at the United Community Center Garden at the southwest corner of New Lots Avenue and Schenck Avenue. Free Prostate Screening For Barber Shop Clients

Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center, in conjunction with Prostate Net and MGM Studio’s "Barbershop 2," will provide free prostate screenings every Friday from now through March 26 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at a Brooklyn barber shop of your choice. Free Or Low-Cost Mammogram

Low income women who feel they cannot get a mammogram are urged to call the Adelphi New York Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline and Support Program at 800-877-8077 to learn about where they can get a free or low cost mammogram.

Cardiac Rehab Program

If you have had a heart attack within the last year, a coronary bypass or angina in the last six months and if you have an okay from your physician, you’re a candidate for the Cardiac Rehabilitation and Exercise Program at Maimonides Medical Center.

Easter Parade & Festival

The Parks Committee of Community Board 17 and the Wyckoff Farm House Museum invite the public to take part in their First Annual Easter Parade & Festival on Saturday, April 3. Maimonides Needs Blood Donors

The blood bank at Maimonides Medical Center, like all blood banks in the region, is currently experiencing a severe blood shortage, especially of Type O-Positive and O-Negative blood. Other blood types are also needed. Please visit the Blood Donor Center on the 3rd floor of the administration building.
