Police are looking for a burglar or burglars who, sometime between Monday night and Tuesday morning, broke into the C-Town Supermarket at 7924 Flatlands Avenue and got away with approximately $20,000 in cash.
According to Desk Officer Lieutenant Don Campbell of the 69th Precinct, the break-in occurred sometime overnight on January 26-27 and was discovered when an assistant manager opened the store Tuesday morning around 8 a.m.
"Our patrol officers responded to a call received about 8:35 a.m.," said Campbell. "The employee said when he entered the store and went to the office, he found it was in a shambles and that the safe had been broken into."
Reports indicated the thief or thieves got in through a hole they cut in the roof. They apparently proceeded directly to the safe and "cut" into it, according to Campbell, meaning they used either an acetylene torch or some other instrument to get into the safe.
The burglars apparently did not take anything else and left the premises through the same hole in the roof through which they entered.
Anyone with information on the burglary is asked to call the 69th Precinct Detective Squad at (718) 257-6215 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.
