Preparations Ongoing For "Night Out" Rally

Preparations Ongoing For "Night Out" Rally

Members of the 69th Precinct Community Council and other civic organizations are saying they expect a good turnout Tuesday for the annual "Night Out Against Crime."

"Last year’s ‘Night Out’ was a good one and a lot of people turned out to make it a success," said Council official Mary Salogub. "If the weather cooperates, this year’s will be even better."

The event is scheduled to start at 6 p.m. on Rockaway Parkway and Foster Avenue, adjacent to P.S. 66, the new school under construction which is scheduled to be completed in time for the opening day of school next month.

There will be a march through a few local neighborhoods to show solidarity in the fight against crime and then, upon returning to the starting point, there will be a number of other activities.

Residents can meet Deputy Inspector Robert Johnsen, commanding officer of the local precinct, and some of the police officers assigned to their areas. They may also receive free literature about crime prevention, see the NYPD K-9 Unit’s dogs and some Mounted Police Unit officers and their horses.

Also scgeduled to attend are representatives of the Kings County District Attorney’s office and "Canarsie’s Bravest" members of the Fire Department. Free food and drinks will be available and there will be games the children. Charles Rogers
