A 20-year-old Canarsie resident is in critical condition after having been shot multiple times during an argument at the corner of East 96 Street and Avenue N last Sunday night,. Police said.Dwayne Trim, 20, of East 88 Street was shot approximately two-to-three times as he became involved in a confrontation with a group of four or five other men, witnesses told responding officers.

The incident took place shortly be-fore midnight, witnesses said, noting that, as the dispute took place at the corner, three shots rang out and Trim fell to the sidewalk, at which time everyone involved scattered.

The witnesses called 911 and police from the 69 Precinct arrived, along with Emergency Medical Ser-vice paramedics, who ministered to Trim and transported him to Brook-dale Hospital for treatment. He was pronounced in critical condition at that time and, police said, has not been able to answer detective’ questions since then.

A black Luger .9 mm handgun that allegedly belonged to the victim, po-lice said, was found lying a few feet away. As a result, Trim was arrested in the hospital and charged with crim-inal possession of a weapon. Detec-tives said they are investigating all aspects of the case at this time, in-cluding whether Trim has any gang connections. He has no known criminal record.

Anyone who might have witnessed the shooting or has any information about the case is asked to contact Detective James Ryan and (718)257-6215 or 1-800-577-TIPS. All calls will be kept strictly confidential.
