Anthony Ervin of East 81 Street, who was gunned down early last Sunday after a party.Anthony Ervin of East 81 Street, who was gunned down early last Sunday after a party.

According to 69th Precinct police, there were nearly 250 people who
attended a giant birthday party last Saturday, June 28th, but none of them can remember circumstances surrounding the shooting that resulted in the death of Anthony Ervin and the wounding of a bystander, Jameel Small.

According to Detective Elizabeth Miller, who is handling the case, the party took place in a backyard behind 1149 East 82 Srtreet.

"Shortly after 1 a.m., as the party was in full swing, Ervin was shot five times," Miller said, "and, as far as can be determined at this time, Jameel Small was walking near the scene and was shot once in the buttock."

Miller confirmed reports that Ervin, 25, whose address was given as East 81 Street, might have been connected to the Bloods street gang, which has been traditionally fighting with members of the Crips gang and others for years.

After Ervin was shot, Miller said, he ran north on the common backyard driveway toward Avenue K between East 82 and East 83 Street. Police found him where he fell on the ground in the rear of a house on Avenue K. Paramedics and the
officials from the medical examiner’s office pronounced him dead at the scene.

In the meantime, despite his injury, Small, 20, was able to flee to his home on East 80 Street near Avenue J, at which time he called 911.

He was taken to Kings County Hospital by Emergency Medical Service ambulance where he was treated, pronounced in stable condition and released.

The investigation is continuing. Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Miller at (718)257-6215 or 1-800-577-TIPS. All calls will be kept strictly confidential.
