Arthur Rauch, a beloved teacher at P.S. 115 for more than three decades and longtime Canarsie resident, passed away on Wednesday, March 19. He was 57.

Rauch, who used to live on Avenue N, taught his entire career at the Canarsie elementary school on East 92 Street until he retired two years ago.

Principal Mitchell Pinsky and Rauch’s colleagues, some of whom were his students, said that he touched the lives of thousands of children, all of whom adored him.

Several educators at P.S. 115 fondly recalled Rauch for "his laughter, his sense of humor and playful teasing," in addition to endless games of Scrabble©, his occasional lunchroom serenades, but most significantly, his never-ending interest in his students.

One colleague remarked, "He remained part of our lives even after his retirement. His students, colleagues and friends will always have love in their hearts and smile when they remember him."

He is survived by his wife, Carol and his children, Jennifer and David.

"To those who knew him," a friend said, "Arthur Rauch will be missed but never forgotten."
