Starrett Man Charged With
Police from the 75 Precinct last weekend arrested a 20-year-old Starrett City resident after his 56-year-old stepfather died allegedly as a result of a brawl with him.
Police spokesperson Carmen Melendez said the incident occurred at about 11:45 p.m. on Friday, February 28 when Courtney McIntosh got into a "domestic altercation" with his stepfather, Charles Crowe.
Sources said that, as the argument extended into fisticuffs, McIntosh’s mother ran from the apartment at 130 Vandalia Avenue and pounded on doors asking for neighbors’ help. Police arrived shortly afterwards and found Crowe unconscious. He was taken to Brookdale Hospital and, according to Melendez, passed away at 4:35 a.m.
McIntosh, who had been taken into custody at the apartment, was taken to the 75 Precinct and, according to a spokesperson for District Attorney Charles Hynes, was charged with murder in the second degree and manslaughter in the first degree.
The D.A.’s spokesperson said McIntosh was arraigned Sunday, March 2 and the case is being presented to a grand jury this week.
Sources said the family had lived in the Spring Creek Towers housing complex — formerly called Starrett City — for at least 12 years.
