Historical Society Conducts Tour Of Old Canarsie

More than a score of residents from the local area enjoyed the sights of Little Old Canarsie as they took part in a walking tour sponsored by the Wyckoff House Museum and organized by the Canarsie Historical Society.

There were so many historical sights to take in," one tourist said, "that we really didn’t get to them all."

Ira Kluger, co-president of the CHS, said he was "very gratified" by the turn-out and, along with co-president Charles Dono, agreed they would again sponsor a tour "perhaps early next year."

The tour started at the Wyckoff House at 1 p.m. and ended at approximately 4 p.m. after visiting such sites as Varken’s Hook Lane and the Schenck-Lott House, as well as the famous Can-arsie Cemetery and the "Indian cemetery" on East 92 Street.
