Suspect Arrested In Biker Shooting

Police have made an arrest in the shooting of a 21-year-old man who was shot while riding his bicycle on East 96th Street on July 11th.

According to Detective Frank Agostini of the 69th Precinct, the victim had been riding his bike near Skidmore Avenue in the area south of Seaview Avenue when he was confronted by Jean Vrine, 21, whose residence is on East 96th Street. who said he wanted the bike.

"An argument ensued," said Agostini, "and the victim attempted to leave, Vrine allegedly fired two or three shots at him, striking him once in the right buttock." He said the shooter fled and witnesses called police. Emergency Medical Service paramedics took the victim to Brookdale Hospital where he was treated. His wound is not life-threatening and he was last listed in stable condition, Agostini said. The victim’s name was not released.

After questioning witnesses and others, Agostini arrested Vrine and charged him with assault and criminal possession of a weapon.
