There are as many ways to work fitness into the daily routine as there are people. Local senior citizens checked some of those methods out recently during National Senior Health and Fitness Day, as Lakeside Adult Day Health Care Center at 945 East 108th Street officiated as official hosts of the event.

Participants at the center joined an estimated 150,000 seniors at 1,500 health sites around the country in special exercises, as they learned their way to better fitness and health.

Each year, event coordinators in every state invent imaginative ways to engage seniors in regular exercise. Experts know that even small increases in physical activity can lead to better health. National Senior Health Day gave older adults the opportunity to begin or renew a commitment to fitness and to celebrate an active senior lifestyle.

"We want to demonstrate that exercise and health education can be fun," said Lakeside Program Director Christine Peluso. "Our registrants look forward to the chance to experience some appropriate and enjoyable forms of exercise and health education. It’s also a greater opportunity for them to learn more about health-related resources in our community."
