After Being Slashed In Stomach

By Charles Rogers

Police from the 69th Precinct, along with Housing officers from PSA-1 have been questioning an "uncooperative" 17-year-old resident of the Breukelen Houses project as to how and why he became the victim of a viscous knife-slashing shortly before the holidays..

The young man, whose name was not released, called emergency services from his home on the afternoon of December 14th, 2001 to tell them he had been stabbed by one of five other males at about 2 p.m. at the corner of East 82nd Street and Glenwood Road, according to a police report issued last week.

The victim said he was standing on the corner when he was approached by a group of male black youths — all ranging in age from mid-teens to early 20s — and one of them attempted to steal a gold chain he was wearing around his neck. While he was struggling with the boy trying to take his necklace, one of the attackers pulled out a knife and slashed the victim across the stomach. The attackers then all fled west on Glenwood Road.

Instead of staying at the scene and having someone call police or other emergency services, the victim returned to his home, where he called "911," police said. He was taken to Brookdale Hospital and released after being treated for his wound.

Police said the youth was "totally uncooperative" as to naming who his attackers were.

Anyone with information is asked to call the 69th Precinct Detective Squad at 257-6215. All calls will be kept strictly confidential.
