Boxing Bouts To Benefit 9/11 Victims

Olympians from the 2000 Sydney Games and New York area fighters will team to support victims of the World Trade Center tragedy when DiBella Entertainment presents "Fighting for America: A Night of Thanksgiving" on November 23, at Manhattan’s Roseland Ballroom, it was announced by DBE president Lou DiBella.

All gate proceeds, as well as the purses of the Olympic boxers, will go to the Twin Towers Fund.

The Olympians participating include: bronze-medalists Jermain Taylor and Clarence Vinson, and Brian Viloria. All three are undefeated in the pro ranks.

New York products who will see action are: James Butler (Harlem), Richard Kiley (New Hyde Park), Brian Adams (Brooklyn), Paulie Malignaggi (Brooklyn), and Jeffrey Resto (Bronx).

"We are very excited about this event and hope that the tri-state area boxing fans will support it," said DiBella. "We will donate 100 percent of the gate proceeds of a hopefully sold-out house to the victims of the tragic events of September 11."

The first bout is slated for 6:30 PM, and ESPN/2’s Friday Night Fights will televise beginning at 9:00 PM.

The balcony level of Roseland will be reserved for 400 members of the New York City Police Department, Fire Department and other local emergency workers.

There will also be a silent auction of boxing collectibles and general sports memorabilia at the event with all proceeds going to the Dr. Theodore A. Atlas Fund for the benefit of WTC Victims and Families.
