Kidnapped Teen Calls Mom, Who Calls Cops, Who Nab Bad Guys A 15-year-old Canarsien was surrounded by three men, forced into a private home on Avenue K and held at the home while his kidnappers made him phone his mother and ask for $5,000 ransom last week, police said

The youth was subsequently released unharmed and the alleged kidnappers were caught red-handed, according to authorities. The incident happened in broad daylight on Wednesday, September 26th at about 4 p.m.

According to Sergeant James O’Neill of the 69th Precinct Detective Squad, the youth was walking on Avenue K between East 95th and East 96th Street when he was accosted by the three men, whom he apparently knew.

"They walked him into a house across the street from Canarsie High School," said Sergeant O’Neill, "and then they made him pick up the phone and call his mother, tell her they had him, and ask her for $5,000 in cash."

He said that, instead, the mother called 911 and, within minutes, patrol officers and detectives were at the door and arrested Kevin Smith, 21, of Rockaway Parkway, Yusef Ellis, 18, of Connecticut and Damon MacDonald, 21, of East 83rd Street. All three men were charged with kidnapping and unlawful imprisonment

Sergeant O’Neill said the victim was later arrested for an unrelated burglary that took place September 22nd. Charles Rogers
