Carib Biz Groups Sponsor WTC Disaster Relief Effort

In response to the devastating terror, which struck New York City’s Financial District on September 11th, an Ad Hoc Task Force of Minority Businesses and several organizations that serve the small business community, was formed to assist the rescue efforts that are currently in place.

Bill Howell, President and CEO of Howell Industries, and chairman of the Minority Business Relief Task Force stated, "We have come together to express our deepest sympathy to those who have been affected by yesterdayís horrific assault on America. The role of the Minority Business Relief Task Force is to offer our support in facilitating collection of emergency relief items for distribution by the Port Authority of NY & NJ and the American Red Cross to the workers at Ground Zero."

The members of the Minority Business Relief Task Force will address four areas:

1) Solicit various non-perishable items including, surgical gloves and masks, overalls, socks, sweaters, and perishables such as bread, buns, patties, coffee, tea, sugar, creamer, danish, sodas, water, napkins, cups, garbage bags, pizza (frozen), etc.

2) Urge the community to donate blood, especially Type O at their local blood center. For further information, please contact, the NY Blood Center at 1(800) 933-2566.

3) Arrange for FREE crisis counseling with professionals at Kingsbrook Jewish Hospital, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. For personal and confidential services, call (718) 363-6620.

4) Convene an ecumenical service to honor the memory of those who perished.

Every person counts and every minute is absolutely crucial in helping to mitigate the impact of this enormous tragedy.
