A 24-year-old Canarsie man was shot seven times as he sat in his car on East 84th Street last Saturday afternoon and, miraculously, escaped serious injury, police said.

According to Detective Sergeant Kevin Kirby of the 69th Precinct, the victim, whose name was not released, had just visited his girl friend on East 84th Street near Farragut Road at about 1 p.m. on September 15th. As he was preparing to drive away, a car pulled up next to him and a passenger in the car pulled out a handgun and started shooting.

Witnesses said the suspect’s car, a white and black sedan, struck a parked vehicle as the assailants fled north and disappeared.

The victim, who was shot in the neck, arms, hand and torso, was taken to Brookdale Hospital by Emergency Medical Service ambulance and was listed in serious but stable condition.

"The following day," said Sergeant Kirby, "the victim was released from the hospital."

Anyone who might have witnessed the incident or has any information is asked to call Detective Chris Karolkowski at 257-6215. All calls will be kept confidential.
