The bodies of three of the four victims of the tragic fire that took place on June 18th in a home on East 79th Street were laid to rest last Friday. A funeral service for all three — Marie Nicole Dufort, 38, her daughter Sheila Ferdinand, 15, and a cousin, Sheila Marescot, 16 — took place at Holy Family Church. A fourth victim, St. Jour Dayana, 15, who died in the hospital June 22nd, was to be buried in Florida.

All the victims died of smoke inhalation, according to authorities. Fifteen others were injured, including seven firefighters, in the fire that struck the top floor of the three-story brick house located near Glenwood Road at 2 a.m.

Firefighters said as many as eleven people were visiting the house, many of them from Florida who came here to attend a graduation ceremony.
