Question: There has been debate whether or not to broadcast the execution of convicted Oklahoma City terrorist bomber Timothy McVeigh, scheduled for later this month. Do you think executions should be televised?
"No. It’s not a form of entertainment. I think it’s something which should send a message, but should be handled professionally and without fanfare."
Cathy Walsh, Canarsie "No, because I think that they are a private matter that should be taken care of in a private way without making it sensational on television." Winifred Campbell, Canarsie "It depends on who's viewing the execution. Nowadays we have people who are mentally disturbed. We have children who might be watching. It depends on their mental status. They will see this and what will their reactions be after that? I don't think executions should be televised." Patricia Cheema, Georgetown | "I believe they should be televised. Why? Because by televising it you can show the public how serious the crime is. By televising it you might put a lot of people in fear of committing such a crime." Patrick Thomas, East Flatbush |
