Call it a three-peat because for the third consecutive month, the Canarsie Courier Students of the Month are from the same schools.

After being honored in December and January, Isaac Bildersee Intermediate School 68 was again honored when seventh grader Ruth Sylvestre won the weekly newspaper’s distinction for February.

Over at P.S. 115, which also had the last two elementary school winners, the February winner is 8-year-old third grader Nicholas Alexander, the son of Cynthia and Lennox Alexander.

In the submission from Class 3-316 teacher Abby Fuchs noted her pupil is "a hardworking, motivated student...who is outgoing, friendly and kind."

Fuchs added, "There is not a day that Nicholas isn’t smiling or laughing...He is a model student."

I.S. 68 teacher Walter Zatorski recommended Sylvestre because she "is a hardworking, dedicated student....who is always willing to participate and never needs to be disciplined. She is a straight ‘A’ student...with a perfect attendance record."

"She is the prime example of what a ‘Student of the Month’ is all about," he concluded.

This is the first time since the Canarsie Courier began the "Student of the Month" program in 1998, that the same District 18 schools had pupils named for the distinguished special honor three straight times.

Each Courier student of the month receives a $100 U.S. Savings Bond, a certificate and a T-shirt proclaiming their honor.
