Senator Sampson To Host Immigration Forum Next Week To "aid members of our community in better understanding the implications of the federal Legal Immigration and Family Equity (LIFE) Act," State Senator John L. Sampson will host an informational forum with representatives of the Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) to answer questions about this new law and other immigration issues. "In late December, President Clinton signed the LIFE Act into law, and the INS is now in the process of developing guidelines to enforce this legislation," said Senator Sampson. "Understandably, our constituents have many concerns and questions regarding the impact of this law on their daily lives. But as we all know, knowledge is power, and that is why I am sponsoring a public forum to inform the community about the LIFE Act and other related issues." In addition to the LIFE Act, information will be made available about Family-Based Applications, Employment-Based Applications, and the Child Citizen Act of 2000. Senator Sampson’s informational forum, to be held in conjunction with representatives of the INS, will be held on Thursday, March 8, from 6 pm to 8 pm. It will take place in the Fellowship Hall of God’s Battalion of Prayer Church, located at 661 Linden Boulevard in Brooklyn (between East 46th Street and Schenectady Avenue.) "I urge all persons interested in learning more about the United States immigration laws to come to this informational forum. You will learn exactly what the LIFE Act means and a lot more," said Senator Sampson. For further information about the forum, contact Senator Sampson’s district office in Brooklyn at 718-649-7653 or 518-455-2788 in Albany. |
