East 83rd Street Resident Shot During Robbery Attempt East 83rd Street Resident Shot During Robbery Attempt By Charles Rogers Police are looking for two men who shot a Canarsien in the hand during a robbery on East 83rd Street early last Saturday. According to Detective Sergeant Kevin Kirby of the 69th Precinct Squad, the victim, whose name was not released, was walking near his home at about 3:30 a.m. on February 24th when two men who had been apparently loitering across the street walked over to him. One of the men pulled a handgun from his waist and, along with the other man, demanded the victim give him whatever money he had. Instead of complying with the request, the victim tried to grab the gun and, while he and his assailant struggled, the gun went off and a bullet struck the victim on the left hand. Both attackers immediately fled north to Foster Avenue and the victim ran to his home and called police. Moments later, police arrived and canvassed the area, discovering one spent shell casing. The victim was treated at Brookdale Hospital and released, according to Sergeant Kirby. Both perpetrators were described as male blacks, about 17 years old, weighing about 130 lbs. and both wearing black overcoats and work boots. Anyone with information is asked to call the 69th Precinct Detective Squad at 257-6215. All calls will be kept confidential. |
