The Canarsie Courier reserves the right to reject any ad and/or edit any item received for publication. All advertisements herein are the exclusive property of the Canarsie Courier, Inc. and may not be reproduced without the expressed written permission of the publisher. All advertisements submitted for publication in the Canarsie Courier may not be used for any other purpose without the expressed written permission of the publisher. All classified ads are read back to the person(s) placing the ad. Please check each new classified ad after the 1st week's insertion. Credit will be given for the amount of space occupied by the error for THE FIRST WEEK ONLY. No credit will be given after the first week's insertion of a classified ad for any reason. The Canarsie Courier will not be responsible for errors in classified advertising beyond the cost of the space occupied by the error. 

 

Creating an advertisement is a task that should not be taken lightly. A lot of thought and preparation should be taken when placing an advertisement in any media. In print media, such as a newspaper, the advertisement you place should do the following in order for it to work properly - that is, bring in more business for you. It should: 

Clearly state what message(s) you are trying to communicate to the public. Don't try to be too vague, too clever or too boring.

State the message(s) in as few words as possible.

Use a headline that will catch the reader's attention and summarize the message(s) you are trying to convey. Remember - you only have a few seconds to interrupt the reader from continuing through the newspaper, so use that time and newspaper advertising space wisely.

The advertisement MUST be pleasing to the eye. Make sure the ad is well-designed so that it stands out among the rest of the ads in the newspaper. Large elements of an ad (headline, photo) combined with small elements (copy, logo) provide a contrast that creates a more striking ad than an ad where all of its elements are close together in size. Graphic elements (rules, borders, symbols) can also help create an ad that will catch someone's attention.
 
If you feel you are not getting your money's worth by having blank white space in your ad, think again. People don't want to be bothered reading an ad that's crammed with information. The right amount of white space only helps your ad stand out better.

If you must use photos or illustrations, make sure that they will reproduce well; otherwise they will only take up valuable space in your ad.
