About Canarsie

9v111.jpg
Canarsie is located at the south-eastern shoreline of Brooklyn, not far from beautiful Jamaica Bay and the famous Sheepshead Bay. It's roughly 15 miles from Manhattan.

It is quiet, mostly residential and, because of its proximity to Manhattan, has been referred to as the small town in the big city.

For decades a Jewish and Italian neighborhood, the area now boasts a wide-ranging population of those of African-American and Caribbean ancestry, leading to an even more diversified community.

Canarsie's main shopping streets are Rockaway Parkway, Flatlands Avenue, and Avenue L.

Because of the large number of commuters who take the subway train to Manhattan every day, the area around the "L" train station on Rockaway Parkway is the busiest area in Canarsie.
