Cleanup Crew Aware Of Their Environment

More than a dozen youths from the Canarsie AWARE Day Service School last week began a six-week program to beautify Canarsie Pier and the surrounding area. The cleanup, prompted by a $15,0000 grant from the New York City Environmental Fund, started on the shoreline west of the pier, and will continue twice a week through June 18. The project entails the 15-17-year-olds to remove floating debris from the water and the adjacent shoreline, as well as developing planting perennial garden beds on the pier. Other groups contributing to the project’s funding include The Hudson River Foundation and the National Park Service. Neil S. Friedman
