SMOKY VAN FIRE SENDS NEIGHBORS SCRAMBLING
 | | Residents near East 98 Street and Avenue L said the flames were 20 feet high and the billowing, black smoke was “horrendous” when the above parked van caught fire just before midnight last Thursday. One witness said, “It looked like one of those bombed-out cars in the Middle East.” Fire Department officials said no one was hurt and they don’t yet know the cause of the blaze, which destroyed the vehicle.
