FAKE COP KIDNAPS, A 37-year-old Canarsie resident was kidnapped and robbed last Sunday night by a man posing as Officers from the local detective squad said the victim told them he was driving east on Avenue L at about 9:15 p.m. near East 96 Street when an unmarked car with a red light on the dashboard pulled up next to him and the driver told him to pull over to the curb. The man pulled over and the driver of the other vehicle, a dark sedan with tinted windows, got out of his car, approached the victim and asked for his license and registration. The victim, whose name was not released, refused to show his papers and asked the man, who he presumed to be a police officer, why he was being interrogated and the "officer" told him to get out of the car. When he did so, he was handcuffed with The victim was driven around the area for about 15 minutes before the car stopped at the corner of East 96 Street and Avenue M and the thief took an undetermined amount of cash, some jewelry and the victim’s car keys. He took the handcuffs off the The thief was described as a male black, about 35 years old. Detectives said he is being sought on charges of impersonating an officer, robbery and kidnapping.
