Maimonides Opens Modern Women’s Breast Cancer Center
Just five months after breaking ground on what will be Brooklyn’s first freestanding comprehensive cancer center, Maimonides Medical Center has opened the doors of the 50,000 square foot facility to patients of the Maimonides Women’s Breast Center. With the move of the Women’s Breast Center into the Comprehensive Cancer Center, patients are now being treated in a technologically advanced, fully equipped and attractive medical suite operated by an expert staff committed to providing superior and sensitive care. The Maimonides Women’s Breast Center, now located at 6300 Eighth Ave-nue, is dedicated to providing comprehensive medical and surgical breast ser-vices for women. Catering to the specialized needs of women, it combines comprehensive screenings with diagnostic procedures in a new technologically sophisticated facility. The Center, which currently serves about 7,500 pa-tients, includes a team of surgeons and other physicians working collaboratively on each patient’s treatment and re-covery. While the Women’s Breast Center is the first to move into the Maimonide Comprehensive Cancer Center, it is far from the last. The Breast Center will be followed shortly by Radiation Oncology, Medical Oncology, Pediatric Oncology and a Cancer Resource Cen-ter. When complete, Maimonides expects to become the first medical center in Brooklyn to provide a full range of cancer care services in one, freestanding facility. "Two years ago, Maimonides committed itself to creating a fully state-of-the-art medical environment devoted exclusively to the education, diagnosis, treatment and support of cancer pa-tients and their loved ones," said Mai-monides President and CEO Pamela Brier. "With the Women’s Breast Center moving into our 6300 Eighth Avenue facility, that vision is quickly becoming a reality." The Women’s Breast Center is led by Carina Biggs, MD, who serves as Chief of Breast Surgery at Maimonides. Joining her are Donna Marie Gallagher, MD, Chief of Breast Imaging, Joshua Kalowitz, MD, Director of Mammo-graphy and an experienced staff of nurses, technicians and support personnel. "Maimonides has long employed a comprehensive approach to patient care, including community education, screen-ing, early detection and diagnosis, con-sultation, support and treatment options including surgery, if necessary," said Dr. Biggs. "The move to a more modern and inviting medical space allows us not only to continue but to strengthen that commitment." Diagnosis treatment options and medical care can be delivered in a single visit. No longer will patients be required to leave the Center for any aspect of their care. Services provided at the Maimonides Women’s Breast Center include screen-ing and diagnostic mammography, ultrasound guided biopsy, cyst aspiration, stereotactic biopsy, cryosurgery and expert consultation with a team of dedicated, highly trained professionals. The Maimonides Women’s Breast Center is located at 6300 Eighth Ave-nue in Brooklyn. For more information or to make an appointment, please call, 718 765-2550.
