Eye On C’Bean Community
Spring is sprung. Some of the flowers are blooming and before I go any further, I first want to say KUDOS to Kellie Mapus, Michael Robinson and Desmond Reid, on the book "Little Lion Goes to School." The book has been approved as a supplementary text by the New York City Board of Education. For additional information please visit www.littlelionbooks.com. Such news, it mek mi heart full up wid pride...More Fire! Next: Team Jamaica Bickles, under the leadership of Irwine G. Clare with volunteers is getting ready to head for Penn Relays in Philly, April 22-24. They feed, transport as well as provide lodgings for participating Jamaican athletes. Oh. I almost forgot, Reggae at Radio City Music Hall! On May 8, Wyclef Jean will host VP Records’ 25th Anniversary concert in New York at Radio City Music Hall. This spectacular celebration will feature live performances by Beenie Man, Beres Hammond, Buju Banton, Elephant Man, Lady Saw, Marcia Griffith, Maxi Priest, Morgan Heritage, Sasha, Shaggy & Rik Rok, Tanto Metro & Devonte, TOK, Wayne Wonder, the AllStar Band, featuring saxo-phone great Dean Frazer and more. With reggae dance hall music’s ever growing crossover appeal and burgeoning fan base, this one event will showcase the full spectrum of Caribbean music. VP’s history dates back to the 1950’s where founder Vincent "Randy" Chin’s; first taste of the music industry, was selling discarded jukebox re-cords in Kingston, Jamaica. Vincent and his wife. Patricia, opened a tiny shop in downtown Kingston called Following the success of Randy’s Records, a landmark shop, Vincent opened a second retail store in 1979 in Jamaica, Queens. Taking their experience and music to the next step, they formed their own record label and distribution company, VP Records in 1993. In 2002, VP further strengthened its efforts by joining with Atlantic Records in a long-term strategic pact to provide VP with the vast resources of major label promotion and worldwide distribution. And to pick up where I started...I wanted to say April showers are on the way but Brooklyn will be cooking and serving up a myriad of outdoor cultural stews throughout spring and summer. Until the next piece...walk good, and keep rocking
