East 95 Street Resident Murdered Just Steps Away From His Home
By Charles Rogers

A resident of East 95 Street was shot and killed last Thursday night just steps away from his home near Avenue K, police said.

Reports from the 69th Precinct Detective Squad said Raymond Angus, 49, was killed at about 10:45 p.m. on April 15 as he approached the side door of his house.

According to detectives, witnesses walking nearby said two men approached the victim and one pulled out a gun and fired one shot into the side of his head. Although some reports indicated one of the men said to the other, "That’s him," just before the shooting, police later said witnesses weren’t sure what was said.

Not completely discounting the possibilty the shooting might have been a "hit" of some kind, the words uttered by one of the gunmen "could have been anything from ‘That’s the guy,’ or ‘This is a robbery’ or ‘Put up your hands’, " said one police source. "We’re not really sure — and neither are the witnesses," he said.

"What we do know is that, when one of them uttered something, there was a slight scuffle, the gun went off, and the victim fell to the ground," the source said. "We don’t have an indication whether Angus knew his assailants or not." He said that immediately after the shooting, the suspects ran south on East 95 Street to Avenue K. It is not known whether or not they then got into
a car.

Police said they are continuing the investigation and ask that anyone with any information call either Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS or the local detective squad at (718)257-6215. All calls will be kept strictly confidential.
