Caribbean Beauty Queen Visits
NY; To Compete For Miss Universe
By Carver Rullow

Danielle Jones, who was crowned Miss Trinidad & Tobago 2004 in January, visited New York City last week. The Caribbean beauty will represent Trinidad & Tobago at the Miss Universe Pageant in Quito, Ecuador this June.

Jones was the special guest at a cocktail reception at her nation’s consulate in Manhattan last Friday evening to meet the press and 120 guests. She was catered to by the consulate staff and hobnobbed with members of the city’s business and political communities.

As the holder of a Masters Degree in Mass Communications and a Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Management, Jones is currently employed as a Communications Specialist with the Ministry of Health in Trinidad & Tobago. Her work in the communications field is closely linked to her passion for environmental issues.

She has served in the capacity of Public Policy and Communications Outreach Associate for the Wilderness Society; an organization headquartered in Washington D.C. and dedicated to the protection and restoration of America’s wilderness areas. Miss Jones continues also to volunteer with the Sea Turtle Conservation Movement.

Apart from her obligations to her professional and modeling careers, Jones donates her free time to the promotion of Breast Cancer Awareness issues. She has served voluntarily with the Washington D.C. National Cancer Society and is also actively involved with fundraising for the St. James Radiotherapy Center in Trinidad & Tobago.

In winning the Miss Trinidad & Tobago 2004 title, Jones was also successful in three other sub competitions—Miss Healthy Skin, Miss Physique and Miss Personal Style.

Terrence A.L. Walker, Consul General for the Republic of Trinidad & Tobago told the crowd, "I extend my sincerest congratulations to Miss Jones on her achievements thus far and wish her every success in Ecuador. Danielle needs all of our support at her upcoming international pageant where she will represent the proud people of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago. All hail the queen!"
