TV Q&A

By Evelyn Ludvigson

Q: I am just sick to death of celebrities spouting their political philosophy when they win an Oscar. This year, Sean Penn made a snide reference to weapons of mass destruction. It made me sick. What makes these people think we have even a remote interest in their politics? That’s the last Oscar ceremony I’ll ever watch. Tim K.

A: I don’t have an answer for you on that one. I personally believe they should make up their minds. Do they want to be politicians, or do they want to be actors? Take your pick. If I had to guess, I’d say they probably feel that since they’re in the public eye, they can get on their soapboxes. In any event, it could have been worse as far as political statements go, which is saying a lot since this is a presidential election year.

Q: Now that John Kerry’s basically wrapped up the Democratic presidential nomination, will he look to rival John Edwards to be on the ticket for vice president? That’s what I heard on TV. Lisa T.

A: Democrats see that as their dream team. Since Edwards is from the South where George Bush runs quite strongly, they feel Edwards could cut into that support. Then again, some pundits suggest that the primary pro-cess created too much bad blood be-tween the two senators, and that it isn’t very likely Kerry will tap Edwards. We’ll see. As they always say about politics, it makes for strange bedfellows.

Q: I’m looking forward to Matt LeBlanc’s "Friends" spin-off. What will be the premise of the show and what is the name? Fran P.

A: The show is appropriately titled "Joey," after Matt’s character. The show will have Joey moving to Los Angeles to pursue his acting career. After that, the rest is rumors. I’ve heard the cast will include a socially inept nephew, a possible love interest, and a hair-dressing sister.
