Local Navy Man On USS Cole

Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Timothy J. O’Neill, son of Robert O’Neill of Brooklyn, recently departed on a routine, scheduled deployment to the Mediterranean Sea while assigned to the guided missile destroyer USS Cole, homeported in Norfolk, Va.

O’Neill’s ship will be joining the 6,500 Sailors and Marines already deployed aboard the ships of the USS Enterprise Carrier Strike Group. The primary mission of O’Neill’s ship is to provide multimission offensive and defensive capabilities. USS Cole is capable of operating independently or as part of a carrier strike group. O’Neill joined the Navy in October 1994.
