Canarsie Teenager Dies While Playing Basketball A Canarsie teenager who had a passion for basketball collapsed and died Sunday while playing his beloved sport at a school in Staten Island, police said. Kenny Belizaire, 14, of East 88 Street, a student at St. Francis High School, died while playing basketball at St. Joseph’s By The Sea High School on Hyland Boulevard, according to NYPD spokesperson Sergeant Kevin Farrell. "Apparently the boy had had a previous medical condition," said Farrell. "He was playing awhile and then walked off the court, sat down on the side bench and collapsed on the floor." Farrell said the youth was attended to by a nurse in the stands and was taken to Staten Island University Hospital South and pronounced dead on arrival. Charles Rogers
