Police Nab Teenage Suspect In Attack On 85-Year-Old Woman Sixteen-year-old Dennis Lugo, who lives in the BayView Houses project, didn’t think his neighbors or acquaintances would turn him in for allegedly attacking and robbing an 85-year-old woman in Seaview Village last week. Police from the 69th Precinct said he and two other thugs allegedly beat the frail Holocaust survivor so badly that they cracked her skull, leaving her on the ground bleeding and crying out for help. But Dennis’ neighbors heard what he and two other attackers had allegedly done to the woman as they robbed her of $400 in cash and a $4,000 teller’s check she’d just purchased in a local bank and even the neighbors thought the deed was "among the worst" they’d heard of, according to police. The woman, whose name was not released, had been shopping and had stopped off at the bank on her way home. One report noted she was about to mourn the anniversary of her husband’s death. Detective Carmine Amalfitano, who was assigned to the case after the woman was attacked at about 2 p.m. on December 10, said the victim told authorities the youths beat her as she walked along East 103 Street near Seaview Avenue, striking her about the face, head and body. "They also broke her nose after they threw her to the ground," Amalfitano said. The woman was taken to Kings County Hospital by Emergency Medical Service paramedics and was later listed in stable condition. One of the witnesses said she saw the three attackers flee across Seaview Avenue and into the area of the BayView complex at East 102 Street. Detective Sergeant James O’Neill said Amalfitano and other detectives canvassed the project area, asking questions and trying to trace the path the thieves took after they left the scene of the incident. They also requested for assistance from the public. Deputy Inspector Robert Johnsen, commanding officer of the local precinct, sent out an appeal for assistance from the public. "We thought that a heinous crime like this would bring some support from the public and, well, I guess it did," Johnsen said. "They pretty well knew, generally, where to look," O’Neill said. Amalfitano picked up Lugo at Canarsie High School, where he is a student, on December 17. The youth was charged with assault and robbery. His two accomplices are still being sought.
