‘Play Ball!’ As 69th Pct. Council Baseball League Gets Underway "PLAY BALL," the umprie cried on July 2 as the 69th Precinct Community Baseball Program held its opening day for the 2003 season. The season kicked off with its traditional "meet the managers, coaches, and players practice game." Although registration for the season brought almost 200 kids to the 69th Precinct, turnout for the practice was very low. The following Monday and Wednesday, the first official league games began. Monday’s game brought a tremendous increase in player participation, with the turnout for Wednesday’s game increasing even more. This year, the 69th Precinct Community Council would like to welcome all its new managers, coaches and players, and thank them for sharing their summer with us. We would also like to thank all the managers, coaches, and players who are joining us again from last year. All your hard work and dedication is appreciated by all associated with our program. The 69th Precinct Community Council would also like to thank our sponsors—S&D, Greenpoint Bank, McDonalds, Senator John Sampson, the Canaries Lions Club, Frank Seddio "Legal Eagles," Canarsie Courier, Tom & Arties Auto Repair, Ambiance Caribbean Restaurant and Bar Inc., Marty’s Pharmacy, and American Legion Post #573 — for their continued commitment to our kids. Without their support, this program would not be what it is today. Now that we got the "ball rolling," the 69th Precinct Community Council Baseball Program would like to wish everyone a happy and healthy summer. To all sponsors, parents, and friends from the neighborhood, we would like to invite you to join us every Monday and Wednesday night at 6 p.m. at Seaview Park to watch our kids swing away. |
