Avenue K Resident Slain In His Home
Police are pulling out all stops in trying to find the killer or killers of a man who was shot on Wednesday, June 4th in a house located on Avenue K near East 95 Street. "Although we have some information on the case," said Sergeant Pat Leahy of the 69 Precinct Detective Squad, "we’re hoping that more witnesses will come forward so we can wrap it up." According to Detective David Miller, who is handling the case, the body of Arthur Jones, a resident of the house at 9516 Avenue K, was discovered on the floor in the living room at about 8 p.m. Miller said Jones had been shot once in the head. Police responded to the scene after witnesses told them they heard what appeared to be a gunshot come from the first floor of the two-story, frame house. At first it was reported that Jones was shot on the street in front of the house but that was discounted by Miller and other investigators, although what appeared to be blood-soaked clothing was found outside on a small front porch. "We can use the help of the public on this one," said Sergeant Leahy. "Since the shooting occurred at 8 p.m., there would have been some people around, either on their way home from work or out shopping, who might have seen something unusual." Anyone with information is asked to call the local detective squad at (718)257-6215 or Crime Stoppers at (800)257-TIPS. All calls will be kept strictly confidential.
