While Investigating Break-in, Cops Find Alleged Cache Of Pot

While investigating a burglary at a private home on East 99th Street, police from the 69th Precinct discovered a cache of what they allege was 200 pounds of marijuana, nearly $2,000 in cash and a loaded gun. No arrests have been made yet, but cops are questioning a resident of the house where the stash was found.

According to Captain Robert Johnsen, commanding officer of the local precinct, the discovery was made on May 22nd at about 10 p.m. when Police Officers Peter Hoeflinger and Chris Riordan responded to a radio call that a burglary was in progress at the apartment.

When the officers arrived, they were met by the 29-year-old resident who told them a man entered his room, displayed a knife and asked where the his roommate was.

"The resident showed the man aother room and the perpetrator broke lock and enetered the room, asking if there was any money around," Captain Johnsen said. "At that time, the resident fled the house through an open window."

While the officers were looking through the house for the burglar, they saw a large quantity of what appeared to be marijuana "in open view," next to $18,200 in cash and a .380 caliber loaded hanmdgun, Johnsen said.

Officers from the precinct’s Detective Squad responded and copnducted interviews whikle the alleged drugs and other items were taken to the stationhouse. The resident who called police was being questioned. His name was not released.
