Police Caution Residents About
Area Hit By Armed Robberies

Police from the 69th Precinct are warning Canarsiens and others to be especially cautious when walking late at night in the central section of the community because of the danger of armed robberies there.

The section is bound by Remsen Avenue — including Canarsie Cemetery — on the east, Seaview Park on the south, East 80th Street to the west and Avenue J to the north.

Not specifying any particular robberies recently, but giving a general warning, officials have alerted patrol officers to be on the lookout for three male blacks, 16 to 20 years old, allegedly armed with a black revolver. They have been seen driving a black Acura with tinted windows.

Officials said the youths are sometimes in the vehicle, but mostly on foot and when they commit the robbery they flee to a common driveway where the car may be waiting for them.

Patrol officers have been told to pay special attention to the section next to Canarsie Cemetery — and the cemetery itself — the dark area near P.S. 115 and, of course, Canarsie Beach Park. They have also been alerted to canvass rear driveways for suspicious people and the Acura.

They ask that anyone who notices suspicious people in the area to please call the precinct at 257-6211. Charles Rogers
