Brooklyn Public Library’s Kidsmobile visits children as they play in parks and neighborhoods across Brooklyn this summer. Funded by the New York City Council through the Connecting Libraries and Schools Project (CLASP), this library-on-wheels brings a collection of 2,000 books and special programs such as arts & crafts, storytelling, sing-alongs, puzzles and games, to children in Brooklyn. Local sites and dates for the Kidsmobile include:

•Canarsie Park, Seaview Avenue and East 93rd Street from 11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. on July 27th, August 3rd, 10th, 17th, 24th and 31st

•Marine Park, bordering Fillmore Avenue, Stuart Street and East 32nd Street, from 3-4:00 p.m. on July 26th and 29th and August 2nd, 9th, 16th and 23rd

•Paerdegat Park, bordering Foster Avenue, Farragut Road, East 40th Street and Albany Avenue from 10-11 a.m. on July 30th and August 6th, 13th, 20th and 27th

•Railroad Park, Ditmas Avenue and East 92nd Street from 10-11 a.m. on July 27th, August 3, 10, 17, 24 and 31.

The Kidsmobile supports BPL’s Summer Reading Program 2001: A Reading Odyssey, a free library program designed to encourage recreational reading -- in a relaxed setting. Research indicates that children who read even one book over the summer are better prepared to succeed in school the following September.

So whether it’s Arthur, Pokeman or Harry Potter that your children want to read, pick it up at your local park. A children’s librarian offers storytelling and readings of stories like The Three Pigs, Tacky the Penguin, Animals Shouldn’t Wear Clothes and Mysteries to Solve.

The Kidsmobile also provides free materials for arts and crafts so children can make jewelry with lanyards and beads, tissue paper flowers and even Power Puff Girls masks. Summer means running and singing and playing — and reading at the BPL Kidsmobile!

For scheduling and other information call 718-253-4567 or visit the BPL’s website at www.brooklynpubliclibrary.org.
