A Drug Free America — I’ve always imagined living in a "drug free America." If America was a drug free country, what a wonderful place it would be! There would be less crime, less accidents, and some of our nation’s health problems, which are caused by the use of drugs, would be eradicated. Less money would be spent by the American government for drug rehabilitation programs. This money could then be used toward education and recreational programs for the youth of our nation. If we keep our youth occupied with sports and other physical activities, then they will learn how to become responsible and respectful adults. These children would most likely "Say No!" to drugs. My dream of a drug free America could come true if more people would take an active role in preventing drug-abuse among the young people. Adults need to become more involved in their children’s lives. Adults must teach the youth the hazards of cigarette smoking, because this is the gateway to the use of illegal substances. They must inform them of the bad effects of smoking, and not give in to peer pressure. Thousands of people die each year from lung cancer, emphysema and other lung related diseases. Parents need to know that second-hand smoke can be just as deadly as smoking, and will affect the health of their children. Often children who live with parents who smoke will develop bronchitis and are more likely to develop asthma. Children also need to take an active role. They must encourage their peers to take a positive stand against drugs and become actively involved in building a drug free America. Please help us, America’s youth, and do your part to keep us — the future — drug free!
