Sampson Announces Breast
Cancer Program Conducting
Mother’s Day Campaign

State Senator John L. Sampson, who represents Canarsie and other south Brooklyn communities, recently announced that the Adelphi New York Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline and Support Program is conducting its annual Mother’s Day campaign to encourage women to get mammograms.

"The breast cancer hotline and support program has helped thousands of women by encouraging them to get mammograms," Senator Sampson said. "The program, which is free, has been a great success, and performs a valuable and much-needed service for our entire State."

The Hotline and Support Program receives nearly 4,000 calls each year. It has been in existence for over 20 years, and is funded by the New York State Legislature and State Department of Health.

In addition to providing general information on mammogram testing (the importance of early detection is stressed) and the location of accredited mammogram facilities, callers can also get emotional support from the hotline’s specially trained volunteers, who in many instances have had personal experiences with breast cancer.

Sampson added. "I encourage my constituents to utilize this important resource in the fight against breast cancer. Help is but a phone call away."

For further information, call the Adelphi New York Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline at (800)-877-8077. Information is also available on their website at www.adelphi.edu/nybreastcancer/.
