©2001 King Features Synd., Inc. At the risk of being pelted with rocks, let me say I was disappointed with "Bridget Jones’s Diary." I don’t know why, but all I could feel was — "Come on. Let’s get on with it." We all knew what was going to happen, either from reading the book, or just plain common sense, but it seemed so long in happening. I’ve always been a Renee Zellweger fan. She’s a fine actress, but here I kind of got fed up with what she was doing with her mouth. I don’t know whether you would call it a moue, or what, but there were just too many shots on that pucker. So now that I’ve had my Scrooge moment, go see for yourselves. Author James Patterson was at the premiere screening and after party for his "Along Came A Spider," and enjoying every minute of it, saying he was most pleased with the Paramount translation of his best seller to the screen, and that Morgan Freeman (above) is perfect as Detective Alex Cross, the central character. Morgan was also there with his wife, Myrna, basking in the kudos for his performance, and announcing his next will be Tom Clancy’s "The Sum of All Fears." I must say he does get all the goodies. The Freemans make their home in Charleston, Miss. I don’t know whether she thinks she looks great, or she goes out of her way to look way-out, but Bjork can really get herself up in some "gaudies," e.g., that "duck dress" she wore to the Oscars. This time it was at a Beverly Hills Art Gallery vernissage. She appeared in those big heavy floppy sandals, a long white something that looked like her bed sheet draped around her body, and a huge white orchid, big as her head, hanging over her right ear. A truly glorious landmark is the Argyle Hotel on Sunset Boulevard. In bygone years it was called The Sunset Towers, an apartment building that housed Clark Gable, Jean Harlow, Paulette Goddard and slews of other stars. Today the Art Deco structure boasts, besides the charming suites and rooms, the fenix restaurant where on any given day or night you might find Nic Cage, Madonna and entourage, Jennifer Lopez, Kevin Spacey, Russell Crowe and on and on, either at the bar or enjoying an elegant meal. Add this to your list for celebrity sightings, although it may cost you a bit more than a tourist tour. Aside to Ben G. of Alice, Texas. Interesting you should ask because I just learned that Woody Allen’s next film is titled (as of now) "The Curse of the Jade Scorpion." However, you won’t be seeing it until August. Allen directs and stars in this film about C.W. Briggs, a top insurance investigator in New York in the ’40s. Briggs prides himself on being able to crack an insurance caper by getting into the mind of the thief. However, thanks to the hypnotic powers of The Jade Scorpion, the mind of the thief is getting into Briggs. Dan Aykroyd, Helen Hunt and Charlize Theron co-star. If what I read is so, and Julia Roberts has signed on for a remake of "Gaslight," which originally starred Charles Boyer, Ingrid Bergman, and made Angela Lansbury a star. I can’t wait to see what Julia does with the Bergman role. It’s one thing I can’t imagine her pulling off, but maybe she will give it her own bit of magic. We shall see. BITS ‘N’ PIECES: Aside to Prieta G. of El Paso, Texas. Yup. David Deluise, who plays Darold Boyarky in ABC’s "Ladies and the Champ," is Dom DeLuise’s son. And is Dom proud of his boy? Don’t ask ... Winona Ryder has gone blonde, blonde for her next film ... To me, one of the funniest things Bill Cosby ever said was —"Gray hair is God’s graffiti."
