Sen. Sampson Touts State’s Auto Insurance Guide For Consumers

Saying "the State Insurance Department is making it easier for New Yorkers to make wise choices among the hundreds of companies that offer automobile insurance," State Senator John L. Sampson recently announced that the department is making available two guides to help consumers.

The 2000 Consumer Guide to Auto Insurance explains the mandatory coverage that all New Yorkers are required to have for their vehicles, as well as optional coverage available to them. Other topics include applying for coverage; driving safely; how to save money on your policy;and buying a policy on the Internet. A list of insurers, their phone numbers, and sample rates from various parts of the State are also included.

The Annual Auto Complaint Ranking evaluates 52 different insurance companies in terms of complaints against them that were upheld by the Insurance Department.

"It is important that all New Yorkers get the best value for their money when buying car insurance. These two guides will help consumers to achieve that goal," Senator Sampson said.

The Brooklyn lawmaker said copies of the guides can be found at the Insurance Department’s website. The 2000 Consumer Guide is located at www.ins.state.ny.us/autoc2000.htm., and the Annual Auto Complaint Ranking can be found at www.ins.state.ny.us/ark99idx.htm.
