Shots Fired Again Near Conklin Ave.; 2 Arrested

By Charles Rogers

It seems one of the more dangerous pastimes in Canarsie could be merely walking in the vicinity of East 92nd Street and Conklin Avenue — day or night.

Last Monday, sharp police officers from the 69th Precinct nabbed two men shortly after they allegedly fired three shots at two pedestrians on East 92nd Street near the corner of Conklin Avenue at 5 p.m.

Just two weeks ago, police responded to an emergency call of "Shots Fired!" on Conklin Avenue two blocks east of East 92nd Street to find that eight shots had been fired by an unknown gunman and two cars had been shot at. A group of elderly residents who had been standing on a nearby corner narrowly missed being shot, police said. Eight shell casings were retrieved from that incident, which occurred at about 9 a.m. No one was apprehended.

However, that wasn’t the case in last Monday’s shooting incident. Captain Jeannine Jennette said patrol officers responded to a report of "Shots Fired" on East 92nd Street just south of Conklin at about 5 p.m. She said the officers were met by two residents who said a car with two men inside pulled up next to them and the driver said, "What’s crackin’, cuz?" Then he turned to his passenger and said, "Pot him!," and the passenger whipped out a black handgun and discharged three rounds at the complainants, who immediately fled north on East 92nd Street towards Glenwood Road.

"An all points bulletin was put out immediately, giving an identification of the car and the occupants" said Captain Jennette, and approximately a half-hour later, Police Officers Marlin Ming and Bennie Robinson were patrolling as part of our overtime Operation Condor and spied what looked like the fugitive vehicle at the corner of Remsen Avenue and Avenue J. They collared Michael Brown, 16, of Stanley Avenue and Everlicles Caceros, 20, of Telstar Drive, Brooklyn, and took them to the crime scene where they were identified by the victims as the alleged shooters.

Both suspercts were taken to the Foster Avenue stationhouse and charged with reckless endangerment and Caceros was charged with criminal possession of a weapon.
